I was driving abode to New Mexico after spending ten days in Nevada's Great Basin deserving I had camped each night. During the days, I had followed bands of wild horses, taking pictures and making notes for a story I wanted to do onward mares and foals.

I was exhausted and eager to be fireside in my own bed. I decided to take shire Road 126, which is a shortcut across the Jemez Mountains.

According to the map, 126 was a paved road, about forty-five miles lengthy I estimated that I would save at least pair hours of driving time.
